"Linux looks grey, therefore it sucks." -Vindegek

Refalm:
I know a certain person who's using Windows XP with the Blue Luna theme (the "FisherPrice theme") on. He says he loves it, because it makes him feel happy.

When he installed Linux, he removed it, because the supposedly grey colours of KDE 3 made him sad or something.

Everytime I mention the Linux, he mentions that it looks ugly, just because of the "fact" that it has grey colours, and therefore must be a slow, incompatible, "old" operating system that couldn't possibly compete to Windows XP, because he thinks Windows XP looks more professional and therefore must be "good".

What's your opinion about this?

I think he's gay and you should take to his head with a baseball bat. When he recovers he might have some sense.

Yes a good stout stick is always a good idea.

He is the usual victim of marketing. Remind him how pathetic it is to be controlled to such an extent that if a product looks good it must be good. I mean I see Coke ads with sexy girls and fun graphics, I mean coke cans look good but you almost never find me drinking the stuff. And if he is that pathetic he can't spend five mins looking at the menu options then really he does not have the smarts to use linux.

And erm... how long has he been using Windows and ermm... that was grey and worse it was combined with a dark blue - brrr... makes me cold to think about it.

Ummm lol?

1)Tell him that all real 1337 h4x0rs use Linux.  ;)
2)Doesn't Linux Quake 3 run signifcantly faster then XP Quake 3? Give him proof of "faster framerates!", that might get through to him. Of course the fact that you have to use Wine alot kinda cancels this out.
3)It would be funny to keep opening windows until XP crashes, surely it will snap eventually right? Then show him what happens when you open the exact same amount of windows with Linux. If he's using W98, even better!

Stability and performance be the shit that strikes at the heart of n00bs.

Ice-9:
XP looks professional because it has more colors than the stock KDE, LOL!
Just tell him that KDE is probably the desktop you can customize the most, you can adapt whatever you want to your liking.

I would agree that the way KDE looks when you just finish an install is kinda "grey".
Edit:RH 8.0 does not actually, Bluecurve all the way!

But it's just a matter of taste, I personally don't like the Fisher Price llok of Win XP, ..... and my desktop isn't "grey" at all anymore, I can tell you that
