ok, red hat won't install to that unless you select "minimal install" and then it'll be a bit of a push. some other distros take less size, but i think you'll want more especially if you want multimedia stuff going on.

i'd suggest getting another drive and sticking mandrake on it to be honest.

I've used less than 2.5 gb of my Red Hat root partition, and I have far more than the minimal installation, and everything I've installed since.

Mirrorball:
Saturninus, if you can't free more space, why don't you try Knoppix instead? You can install Red Hat later after you decide Linux is for you.
(You can still use Linux for most things and Windows for music making.)
