You guys will hate me for this Q

Here's an even better twist:
I have a laptop running SuSe, that has it's own little trackpad.  The trackpad works fine with Linux, but I hate the trackpad, so I want to plug in a mouse - an MS Optical.

Now, under win98, if you plugged in a non-optical non-MS mouse after starting windows, the mouse and the trackpad would work, which was great.  neither would work after i got the optical mouse.

So now, under Linux, is it possible to have both pointer devices working?  Will the mouse be hot-pluggable and unpluggable?  Will the trackpad still function with the mouse plugged in?

Not too important in the long run, but it would be kinda nice.
