Stryker:
People come here all the time asking questions like: "What is the best linux distrobution?". I'm looking for a distro that doesn't have any prepackaged programs. I want it to compile everything right in front of me so that I know it's built just for my computer. Does anyone know if any distro does this? I'm making a distro at the moment and am considering having this as the install method. But I'd like to see an example beforehand if there is one.
Doctor V:
Gentoo is kinda like that. Everything is compiled from source. You start by untarring an absolute minimal linux system, no kernel, no nothing. Then you install Portage, Gentoo's package manager, and it compiles all the packages from source right before your eyes. You can even set the compiler options and tailor them to your system exactly.
Is this a little like what you're looking for?

You might want to give Rock Linux a try. It is basically a distro that you build yourself. Good luck with it:
