Yes, OSX. Would an OS by any other name smell as sweet? Friggin' awesome to have nix at the base of the stack.

This is the future.

Well, two things:  First, you can't compare mhz ratings between two unrelated chip families.  Now even AMD is using this defense because their Athlons are at lower clock speeds than P4s.  But we all know which chip is faster.  (Hint:  Starts with "A" and ends with "n".)

Same principle applies to PowerPC G3/G4, etc.  Just because the fastest G4 on the market now is 867 mhz, it does NOT mean it's half the speed of the fastest P4.  In audio/video applications, in fact, it's right there with the fastest P4s, and in some areas, considerably faster.

Second thing:  If The Register and various rumor sites are correct, the G5 comes out in a month or two.  They've tested it at speeds up to 2.4 Ghz, but the guess is that it'll be introduced at 1.2, 1.4, and 1.6 Ghz.  It's going to be a 64-bit chip, and the G5 boxen are going to have 400 mhz buses, use RDRAM, next-generation FireWire (twice the speed of the current one), and USB2.  These things, ladies and gentlemen, are going to RIP SHIT.

After all, it wasn't for shits and giggles that Alias|Wavefront ported Maya to OS X.  Apple obviously must've had some discussions with them about their future plans and convinced them it would be VERY much worth their while . . .

These next few months promise to be quite interesting.

well, there must be some sort of formula to figure out their relation, no?

how much do you think these are going to cost -- sounds like it'll rip a hole in a mans' wallet.

and rdram is expensive, greatly due to the hefty royalties charged by rambus.

usb is real slow; what's usb2 about?

Why are you alive, anyway?  I've seen a few of your posts now and am wondering what your point is.  If any.

I've just given some factual information that proves your little "Macs are toys" bullshit is just that -- bullshit.

Anyway, more info on the G5 is available at this URL, for those who are interested.  It gets more and more juicy.

And yes, chances are, given Apple's behavior so far, they'll introduce the new machines at the same price points as the current G4s.

Hook:  you go use your little PC, OK, son?  You deserve it anyway.
