Must be a rich school district. The school district i work for (as a computer tech) is dirt poor. I could not imagine our district actually giving out laptops to students at any of the schools, let alone mac laptops which are more expensive. Our district does not even use macs at all. It is just windows on a Novell network.

Gee, I wonder why your principal and IT staffer both just bought a new Vanquish? ;)
EDIT: More important, the "how" than the "why."

There's no reason to install Linux on a Mac unless you have a very specific reason for doing so, or extremely old hardware. And contrary to what some have said, it's really not that hard.

They're not more expensive, and that's without considering standard educational discounts, bulk discounts, and lower operating costs. A limited budget is precisely why a school should go Mac.
