i see you mention a few times to gamers that you dont know why they dont get a console...

If i had to make a choice for gaming, it would be a computer. even a xbox and a gamecube really cant compare... and yes i do own both.

i hear people saying too many times that if you want to play games just buy a console... these people are usually people that dont have much experience with computer games... it also depends what kind of games you want to play.

but the whole 'just get a console' thing really ticks me off... and the whole statement kind of seems contrary to this sites theme in a way.

kinky,

the only thing the comp. ever gets that's any good are the Baldur's Gate, Starcraft, War Craft, type games. These are excelent! Other than that, I rearly see anything on the storeshelves that isn't just more Doom, Quake, C&C, rehash.

In any case, computer games are pretty nice, but buying a computer for the sole purpose of gaming is a bit ludacriss. Why spend 1500-3000$ dolars on a machine to play games, when you can spend 100-300$ for a dedicated system.

I think this alone makes that argument valid. Like it or not, as fun as they are, games are quite non-productive, computers are made to be productive. If your not producing on them, then you have wasted your money.

Besides, the consoles allways, in my opinion, end up having a larger variety of games than the PC. For gaming they are a better buy, hands down.

you also have to buy games, which adds up to alot... i rarely spend money on a computer game, only if i really like it and have tried it first

i dont have a computer for the sole purpose of gaming, i have a computer for many reasons, but when i have a computer that can do better than any console out right now, why spend the extra money for the console when i have the computer that can already do it?

there are not many good strategy type games that are fun on consoles, and the graphics are weak because of TVs. the type of games i like are not feesable on a console right now... like Everquest, or Neverwinter Nights...

if you like to go around mindlessly killing things, or play 'sports' games, racing or whatever... yeah consoles are much easier... but the kind of games i like that takes more brainpower, or vastly multiplayer, just need a computer for anyways

I'm not saying anyone should go out and spend $2000 for a computer to play games.. you save money by buying a console.  but i already have a great computer i use for MANY things... so i would actually save money by using it for games over getting a console

and about your "productive" point.. that all depends on your beleifs and outlook on life.  some people find it productive to do soemthing that makes them happy, where others find it productive to make money, or a contribution to something larger, or to help someone out... etc etc....

Because a lot of console games never get released on the pc platform (for example a lot of beat em up/fighting games)

Agreed, but I did have a lot of fun with Phantasy Star Online and Railroad Tycoon 2 on my dreamcast (though PSO is more of an action RPG)

console RPG's are not played mindlessly, they take a lot of strategic effort to complete succesfull.

To each his own I say, I both have a pc and a number of consoles and quite frankly, you can't compare PC gaming to console gaming

from the dictionary:

productivity
n 1: the quality of being productive or
having the power to
          produce [syn: productiveness] [ant: unproductiveness]
2: (economics) the ratio of the quantity and quality of units
produced to the labor per unit of time

When playing a game you don't produce anything (except for maybe a bit of a ego boost and soar hands) so that argument is pretty much void ....
