OK, as I was checking out the Knoppix Linux distro, there where some ogg's on it, and one was called: "Void Main - Penguin Planet (authentic edit)"...

So ehm, is this the same void main here?

[EDIT]Sorry, there where ogg's on it of course... mp3's are evil   [/EDIT]

I do have stuff on MP3.com but not under the name Void Main. I do recall seeing the Void Main music but have never listened to it. I sort of doubt that it would be the same sort of music I play. My music is sort of 80's rock'ish.

Well all of the songs I have on MP3.com are from my band's CD (actually I have music up there from two different bands I was in). Most of the songs were done in a professional recording studio and I am not sure what software they used. But some of the songs I did in my home studio. I had a rack full of equipment (still have most of it) containing a 24 channel Mackie mixer and a bunch of effects and crap.

But the important piece I used for actually recording and mastering the music in my home studio was a rack mount device called "Layla" made by a company called Echo. It had multiple 1/4" inputs that I ran from my some of my mixer output channels. It had a cable that attached to it that went to a PCI card in my computer. Unfortunately this device only had Windows drivers/software and I used Cool Edit Pro to capture, filter, mix and master the tracks. The nice thing is I could record each instrument on a separate track and if we wanted to ditch one track and redo it we could easily do it without having to have everyone play the song over. Just fire up all the other tracks and record the instrument that needs to be redone.

Then I created my CD from this. Now you rip and create MP3s from the CD like you would any CD using Linux or Windows ripping and encoding software. I looked over emh's post last night of Linux audio software and it looks like things are looking better in the multitrack recording side of the house. It might just make me want to hook my stuff up again and do some recording.

I really don't want to give out too much information. As you can tell I have wanted to remain fairly anonymous for several reasons. One of you European fundamentalist radicals might want to hunt me down.    (joking... it's supposed to be a JOKE! If you didn't take it that way please ignore this message).

hmm. shame, i want to hear your stuff. i suppose there's no chance of you anonymously hosting the music elsewhere or something for the time being?

Well it wouldn't be hard to figure out where the rest of it is if I anonymously posted some of the songs on an anonymous web site. A simple search would lead you to the real stuff on MP3.com and there you would find a picture of me in our band photo that everyone would want to gimp up.    I actually did some gimping for the cover of our CD and the band pictures. Gimp has some cool effects.

One other thing I should have mentioned in my previous post regarding the Layla card (which I still have) and having to run it on Windows. I could only get it to work on Windows95 and it was *extremely* touchy. The slightest wrong move and it would blue screen. If this device had Linux device drivers and I had a Linux version of Cool Edit Pro I can say for certain the nights of recording would have been *much* shorter. Who said  Linux is free only if you don't value your time?!? That line is a crock.
