What exactly is showing the errors? Do you mean the BIOS or the operating system?

If it's the BIOS then you just have to configure it properly. Make sure to disable everything that you dont need in the BIOS (like Parallel Port, seial port, special modem IRQ if it has one). All those things eat up resources and IRQs and disabling them usually prevents lots of hardware conflicts.

I build my own PC. I choose the best hardware for Linux.

AMD: Because of their OSS initiatives.
GeForce: Official Linux driver that kicks ass.
nForce mobo chipset: Official Linux driver that's way cool.

If you're thinking about a soundcard (I'm happy with the integrated nForce soundcard anyway), choose one from Creative. They have Linux drivers.
ATi only tests their Windows drivers, they compile the Mac and Linux drivers with Windows code and without testing them. And even the Windows drivers aren't very good. VIA chipset mobo's don't have an official Linux driver.

What does "a custom 'Dell' shaped pc" mean even... a Dell case or Dell look alike case...?

Just that you can select if you want 2 GB of RAM instead of the 512 MB of RAM that is standard on a Dell.

You can't make a fast PC without a few hundred stickers, fifteen fans, and a magical fairy to live inside your giant aluminum case. I mean, you're only going to use two or three 5.25" drivers, so she might as well live under your burnder and grant you wishes.

Why the hell do people spend three hundred pounds on something that they could build for around fifteen hundred? Sereously.

I used parts from my old PC and build them into a new one. I'm happy with 80 GB and my GeForce MX 440 isn't that slow.

I still don't see how. I mean if he was buying a Dell Poweredge with Dual Xeons or something then I could see how. I'm not doubting he did spend 3k, I just don't understand what could cost that much.

Yeah, but since Dell builds every PC to order there's no reason to claim it's a custom.

Also. It's pretty easy to get up an expensive configuration. 1GB ram. 500gb RAID. 3.4ghz P4. 21" flat screen. 256MB Radeon 9800. It gets expensive.
