Boing!

I'm a fairly minimalist guy, which explains the lack of stuff on my desktop...

Its codetek virtual desktop, I quit using it though, ever since I installed it apps would randomly quit with no error message or anything.  But since I got rid of it everythings all good, its is a cool app though just wish it worked right.

Anyone know of anything else similar for os10?

sadly, this is just a background wallpaper, but i think it's a funny wallpaper:
somehow i can't get gnome 2 to work with iceWM the way i want it to, and i don't know if i want to risk shoehorning gnome 1.4 onto my computer as well to try and get it going. I'm worried it might stuff up gnome 2...

That Linux desktop wouldn't fool anyone into thinking they are using Windows XP because,

1.The ugly, clunky looking clock.

2.Every icon on the wannabe taskbar has an ugly little box outline around it(unlike XP which has a smooth looking taskbar with smooth icon backgrounds that blend seamlessly into the taskbar).

3. The window scroll bars aren't consistant to the visual style.

true, and icewm is a really small lightweight desktop environment, plus i haven't found all the ways it can be customised yet.

rather than trying to fool somebody i think it is fun to just use as much stuff as possible that looks a bit like windows. For instance, icewm also has a windows 95 theme and a windows 3.1 theme, but i don't like the 95 theme so much as it says 'linux' instead of 'start' on the start button, and i suppose i could change it but i will need to find out how.

as for the winamp skin, the msn window, the IE skin and so on, you are correct of course, the IE skin is supposed to look like the IE from win2000, as the author has not finished his XP version yet, AMSN is just supposed to try and look like whatever the newest version of messenger is, also, the XP theme for icewm seems to be static colours, so i would need to figure out how to make my own theme if i want to change the colours in 'XP'. Also those icons are hacked, unfortunately, i got the IE icon off somebody's website and unfortunately i don't like the implementation of it as it has white spots around it, plus it is too close to the blue on the toolbar, how is that resolved on a real XP toolbar? The winamp/xmms skin, i think i will install on there too, but again, it doesn't go all out fanatically to look like WMP.

I'm not too bothered about how 100% accurate it all is, i just want it to look a bit windowsy, as it might provoke a double take or two... there's no way i would really want to convince somebody i was running windows when i wasn't when it comes down to it.

Also, (for the rest) GNOME 2 seems incompatible with icewm, i booted into GNOME and did 'killall -9 metacity; icewm;' and it worked, however it seems to have some real toolbar issues.
I might just go with icewm's MacOS theme and have done with it! that still leaves me with my desktop icons problem though...

edit - by the way, go and look on the first page or two of this thread, pretty bad, most of the images are down! any chance they could some of them come back? i liked them!  :D
