I needed a bootdisk... why you can't just boot off a CD is a Windoze quirk I will never understand.

You can if your BIOS supports it.
quote:My fav. thing about the installer is this dialogue that says if this is takeing to long reboot. HAHAHAHAH! WTF, the os dosn't even know if it fucked up?

Now that's just plain biased.
quote:I have never seen a Mac, after being used for years, have this extreme fragmentation.

That's because Mac OS doesn't come with a defrag program, you have to go out and buy one.
*is tempted to say a similar thing about Linux*
quote:But RedHat 8 in, set the BIOS to load the CD and finaly a modern, fully featured, easy to use installer booted up.
--- End quote ---
Oh, it does support it. Once again, you're being biased.

In what? AppleScript? HyperCard? ResEdit? I'd like to know.
Remind me again why I still hang out with people like yourselves.

I know, it won't boot. Tried it.
>>Now that's just plain biased.
No, that's just dumb. The Installer should know what the fuck it's doing and not ask you to figure it out.

No, there are several free ones. And I, being a Mac user for years, have defraged my HD's more than once. I have never seen the degree of fragmentation 98 left on my disk.
>>*is tempted to say a similar thing about Linux*
All *NIX's are very good about keeping themselves organized. They don't need to be defraged. Some argue that if you run a system with high I/O like a server you should defrag, but for everyone else, it's unecessary.

Didn't work for me. But there is another windoze hangup. Inconsistency! Maybe some folks like variety, but I like a system that behaves the same way twice.

No dildo, C/C++, PPC ASM.
Not to mention that apple themselves have provided some excellent sweets in their days. MPW and Project builder. All free! Let's see microshit do that.

He should've at least installed Windows 2000 Pro if not XP(which is way better than 2K). The NT OS'es aren't nearly as unstable as those trashy Win9x OSes. I'd have to say that you were nuts for even thinking a 9x OS would be stable and is anything like what you are used to.

Ya I know. I even have a copy of 2000. I just wanted DOS! I admit it, I like DOS :D .
I just don't feel at home less I can boot the comp. to a text prompt. I know there is emulation, but it's just not the same... Im a sad, sad man.

I'm going to have to take Windows' side here: you were installing Windows 98, an OS from 1997, on an almost 2003 computer. Come on man - can you install Mac OS 8 on a new G4 and expect it to work? I'm just preaching reason!

No excuse. In 1997... nay 1984! Apple has had great installers with no problems. I do not tollerate shitty programming or design.
Should I cut them slack for marketing to the lowest common denomenator cuz of their monopoly... piss on that.
