VMware emulation i use for my Virii Programming (Its handy if things go wrong) But it emulates  2mb Video card (crap) and so on.

This person doesnt see that Gaming is twice as good under linux. It has OPENgl and i know for a fact that i can get Half-Life running fine in Wine
(Windows Emulator)

But 3d games run better in linux.

GOTO WWW.LOKIGAMES.COM
They make ports of games too Linux

Wish you luck in FuckingMicrosoft

Totaly unralated in a way...

FFIX was so infinitly better than FFVIII it's not even funny. FFVIII was like a haralaquin romance novel in a Fantasy Sci-Fi world. Whatever happend to  Square, I miss the old days of FFIV (the best Final Fantasy in my opinion FFVI a close second).

Oh ya, FFX for PS2.. a load too. Nothing but eye-candy and no substance. A stigma the FF series has been suffering from.

Now Grandia, that's a great old school style RPG ahhhh....

whatever, just showing my colors       :D    .

X11, you don't really program virii do you?

quote:The second point makes a dual boot machine rather tricky.  Certainly Linux is an extremely powerful OS by all accounts.  It is also, as far as I can tell, designed by coders for coders.  I am not a coder, I am not a techie, and I do not have three weeks I can spend learning to use an OS when I have one that does work as well as I need it to.
--- End quote ---
a shame that. it will take you that long to come to grips with linux, but that coder/techie thing is quite outdated. i am a recent M$ to linux convert and i have increased my computer knowledge a lot just by using linux. it is a useful learning tool as well as an OS, and not at all the confusing morass you expect it to be after you have used windows. linux is not windows remember. it is nothing like it.
quote:My computer is not a lifestyle: it is a tool and it is a toy.  I don't have the time to learn a new OS, and I don't want to take the risk of causing a problem I CAN NOT get any professional to fix.
--- End quote ---
linux is open source. this means that all the problems that you would need you to reinstall windows can be fixed by editing the right config files in linux, if you know what yr doing (as any professional would). Of course these mysterious problems you are probably used to in windows happen with much less frequency in linux.

I realize that this board is populated in large part by the computer-savvy power users who find OSes such as Linux etcetera to be useful and easy tools.

everybody started off somewhere you know...

so did i last year, and the switch was totally painless  :D  !
quote:If you should ever happen to wonder why Microsoft can continue to exist despite its poor products and bad practices, even when a better alternative exists, look no further than the gulf between you and me.  Even the most just and righteous cause cannot live without the bourgeoisie.
--- End quote ---
fair point, but the bourgeoisie tend to be people who inflict their beliefs on others. the linux community does not exist to initiate people into the fold, it exists to help people learn who are willing to learn.
Again, unlike a corporation, linux does not care if you use it or not. linux is not windows, linux is not Microsoft.
People can continue using windows if they want and they themselves have the right to switch to something else if they want. linux is really no harder than windows overall in my experience (it depends on a lot of factors though). a healthy situation of criticism towards a monopoly such as Microsoft is necessary though, in order to stand up for both freedom of speech and freedom of choice.
by all means continue to use windows, but you are supporting a company that definitely wants to take that choice away from you...
