Dubya's News Conference
WMD:
Well, it just ended. Thoughts?
I think he did ok, but he stuttered quite a bit. Then again, it was unprepared.
Paladin9:
He is just saying what he wants people to think. All he talks about is "freedom" in Iraq.
Xeen:
Gotta love how these people just outright ignore the questions they're asked and talk about something else just so they don't have to give a negative answer.
Today's Bush Press Conference:
quote:Question: Mr. President. Two weeks ago, a former counterterrorism official at the NSC, Richard Clarke, offered an unequivocal apology to the American people for failing them prior to 9/11. Do you believe the American people deserve a similar apology from you, and would you be prepared to give them one?
Answer: Look, I can understand why people in my administration anguished over the fact that people lost their life. I feel the same way. I mean, I'm sick when I think about the death that took place on that day. And as I mentioned, I've met with a lot of family members and I do the best I do to console them about the loss of their loved one. As I mentioned, I oftentimes think about what I could have done differently. I can assure the American people that had we had any inkling that this was going to happen, we would have done everything in our power to stop the attack. Here's what I feel about that. The person responsible for the attacks was Osama bin Laden. That's who's responsible for killing Americans. And that's why we will stay on the offense until we bring people to justice.
--- End quote ---
The question given to Bush was whether he believes the American people deserve an apology from him or not, and whether he'd be prepared to make such an apology. Did he anwer this question? NO. Nowhere in his answer did he say "No, I do not think I owe people an apology" or "Yes, I think I do owe an apology but I'm not prepared to give it." He delibaretly dodged the question. And who could blame him?
Personally, I feel if Bush went on TV and admitted to the American people that he failed them in the summer of 2001, it could boost his approval rating. Ironic, but I think it's true.
quote:Question: Mr. President, why are you and the Vice President insisting on appearing together before the 9/11 Commission?
Answer: because the 9/11 Commission wants to ask us questions, that's why we're meeting. And I look forward to meeting with them and answering their questions.
Question: I was asking why you're appearing together, rather than separately, which was their request.
Answer: Because it's a good chance for both of us to answer questions that the 9/11 Commission is looking forward to asking us, and I'm looking forward to answering them. Next question.
--- End quote ---
Again, asshat delibaretely dodges question. He refused to explain why he and Cheney wouldn't allow the commission to question them individually, and hurried to the next question.

Paladin9:
I think Bush and Condi Rice are sort of filibustering to avoid answering questions that they do not want to answer.
WMD:
Ok xeen, I think you took Bush's answers a bit too literally (at least the second one). Maybe it's cuz you assume too much stupidness to begin. ;) :D
I deduct from the second answer that he thinks they could answer the questions better when together. He just didn't say it too directly.
As for the first one...he didn't totally dodge the question, but he mentioned something similar. He's apologized privately to famililes, that's what he's saying. So maybe, the answer was "no" to the original question. No guarentee on that, I'm just doing some thinking.
Hey, wait a minute... didn't I say I wasn't going to post in political threads anymore? :D Ah well.
