Actually... I may have some bitching about some aspects of MS, but I spend much time correcting some member's more erroneous comments. XP has worked wonderfully for me really... so much that I don't feel any urge to even give Longhorn a try when it comes out.. My partition with Mandrake just sits there, gathering dust. I'll undoubtedly erase it sometime soon and increase XP's partition. I can really describe my enjoyment of Linux in 1 prhase. "Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there."

if fettid doesn't boot into linux, how can he or she expect it to do anything for her/him?
i don't boot into my windows partition so it's shit, but the difference is that on the rare ocassions i do boot into it, it's shit. very unstable, insecure etc. it only exists in case i need to use some chat program my university gave me.

We get to use jabber. Are your admins likely to bow to your requests or are they inflexible types?
Calum:
very inflexible.
they say we can use what we like, but they only support windows. they provide windows software and urls for the mac versions if they exist. the program in question is first class client which is a closed source conferencing quite, it allows access to uni webspace (for which they will not allow normal ftp access), chat (which sucks, is hard to use and is buggy, unlike gaim), email (more confusing than evolution, sylpheed, or any other email client) and bulletin board (again, about as intuitive as the bulletin boards of five years ago, not up to 'modern' standards).
Most of the functions can be done using mozilla (luckily) as the helpdesk guys informed me (they are friendly towards linux/open source but that's totally not the same as them actually supporting it!) but the chat and the uploading to webspace MUST be done in windows, these functions do not work even when i use the program under wine (which i no longer have installed anyway) and i think i need the uploading thing for the end of course assesment.
i heard there was a really old red hat rpm of the program and even got hold of what i thought was it, but it wouldn't run (even when i finally got it to install) on any linux i now have.

I don't expect it to do anything for me. I tried it. I didn't care for it.
