New Freedom tower in New York City

(1/4) > >>

Canadian Lover:
I was reading somewhere about the new "freedom tower". It's the replacement for the WTC. I'll look for an artice, but for now, amuse yourself with this:

EDIT the artice is here.

I kinda like it...

WMD:
That thing looks taller than the original WTC.

Interesting design, I must say.

Xeen:
Part of me likes it.
The other part feels they shouldn't attempt to rebuild anything there at all - not for a long time.

It's like when you have a pet for a long long time and then it dies in a tragic accident. You don't just go out and get a new pet. Some people do, but most aren't comfortable with doing so. Same thing here. Plus what makes me even more disgusted is that the new tower will be owned by and its construction will be managed by the same guy who owned the old WTC. That's like having someone kill your pet and then the same person goes out and buys you a new one. But I'll refrain from turning this into a 9/11 debate.

If it were up to me, I'd just put a memorial there that somehow symbolizes the old WTC and leave it alone for at several more years.

Part of me says they should start over anew, considering that if we stop all progress - callous as this may sound - the terrorists have won.  Perhaps it's time for something like this.

The other part of me wonders how in the hell they're going to keep tenants in a building with the stigma that this will have surrounding it.  Ever been to Gettysburg?  Arlington National Cemetary?  There's a definite sereneness there, but also a profound sadness that could easily make one believe in things beyond this plain of existance.  My question to you is: whether you believe in ghosts, spirits, whatever or not - how are they going to keep tenants with the level of uncanny events that are likely to happen at a "gathering of souls" like this?  My apologies for my fringe theories, but I researched the paranormal in another life.
