Same thing happened at Erudition. On any given day, > half the active threads are "controversial topics"

There's a REASON the forum became so serious: because the current political situation became so alarming that people are more interested in discussing the situation rather than fool around. It's as if a customer at a hairdresser complained about the patrons discussing politics rather than sports right after the third world war was declared.
