last night a friend called, he bitched about his computer, mostly about windows. he said "Fuck Windows, give me Linux". so tonight, i am giving him a copy of mandrake 9 (or redhat8, but i think mandrake would be better for him). so hopefully it all goes smoothly. he isnt even a geek like me, he just wants a computer that works & cant afford a mac.

hmm...that reminds me. this weekend i have to install linux on two of my friends' laptops. they both are interesting in knowing more about computers, but one is just a moron...

Actually I've had some luck converting people lately as soon as I stopped blabbing about Mac all the time. One of my Windows zombie friends installed Mandrake but said it looked really bad and there were no programs for it. I told him to try Red Hat instead. Did I do the right thing? What do you guys recommend for former Windows people who like tons of compatable software? I hope this guy doesn't go back to the dark side because of this problem (I told him about gimp and mozilla, but what other alternatives are good to Microsoft programs?).
