Forums are back up after downtime -- but NOT upgraded.
CommonSense:
Sorry about the intermittent downtime for the last couple of days. I was trying to upgrade the forums to Ultimate Bulletin Board 6.2. Apparently the UBB people like to give you crappy directions that are sure to totally destroy your forum, because after several times of following their stupid upgrade guide to the letter, it killed the forum each time.
UBB is making me miserable, and it's a wonder this horribly unstable, taped-together hobbled mess even runs at all. In any event, I think it's OK now. And at least I had sense enough this time to make a backup of everything first, so nothing was lost. Except another little bit of my ever-eroding sanity.
Calum:
did you look into phpBB?
as far as i can see, it's totally open source, and free...
just a thought, i have a mate who uses it and is thoroughly pleased with it you see.
Gooseberry Clock:
Serves you right for not using YaBB in the first place. Where the hell's the mark as read button?

Ahhhh, I was having withdrawls! I thought M$ shut you down. I just realized that the way I normally get to these forums is still not working, I just stumbled into them through another link and found you've been up for a while now. If you go to http://forum.fuckmicrosoft.com it will fail as it redirects you to http://forum.fuckmicrosoft.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php (which used to work, but now says it's off-line).
I also get redirected to the non-working URL if I click on the "Forum" link at the top of the page.
Thanks for the work!

You sure about that? Sounds like a cache thing. I actually edited the index.html file so that it forwards to the .cgi and not the .php, so I think you may be working off a cached version of the forwarding page . . .
