Windows ME (Arrrrggghh)
Plasticman:
Can't find a windows help forum so this will have to do.
Here's my problem:
I am trying to install Win 2000 Pro over Win ME on a friends computer, obviously this wont work as the upgrade is not supported. So i decided on Formatting the C: drive to completely clean it and start anew with 2000 pro.
But when i get into DOS and type FORMAT C: it just throws up "Bad Command" (and before you ask i have made sure i am in the C:\> directory) now i havn't used DOS in a number of years but surely the commands are the same as they used to be
Also when i try to exit DOS by typing "EXIT" or "WIN" this doesn't work either. maybe i have just fallen behind the times but i find this extremely frustrating...
I have searched high and low for a solution to this but to no joy, the MS website sends you in circles.
Any thoughts or help would be great
Thanx
Refalm:
Install Linux on that computer!
Download Fedora Linux now:
ftp://alviss.et.tudelft.nl/pub/fedora/core/1/i386/iso/ (download the i386 ones, not the SRPM ones).
Plasticman:
I would if i could Refalm but the user i am doing this for is only young and to be honest not very bright, he has no idea of anything but windows or IE so he would be totally lost if i installed anything but microsoft based programs. and prsonally i have enough problems of my own just now without having to hold his hand while he
(and me) picks up the new OS and explorer.
But thanks for the quick reply, anybody else got any ideas?
restin256:
Show him around fedora.
1. Install fedora.
2. Upgrade the kernel. Go to www.kernel.org and download 2.6.3, then recompile it and install.
3. Download apt-get at www.freshrpms.net
4. Apply the patch for XMMS to play Mp3's
5. Show the kid around apt-get, K3B for burnning CDs, the Gimp for graphics, GAIM for instant messeging, Gnutella for filesharing, XMMS for media playing, Noatun for music vidos and porn, and anything else you can. You're done.
I'm still at the part where I have to recompile the kernel, and therefore can't get the sound to work. :(
