What if Microsoft designed the computers on the Enterprise?
emh:
We know that, in the Star Trek universe, computers do a lot of things that they can't do now. But I'm just wondering, what the Federation would have been like if Microsoft designed all of their computers and their software. I have a feeling they would be running less-than-perfectly......
So what do you all thing would happen?
hm_murdock:
what? you mean they'd be even more unreliable?
I always had to laugh at technology in TNG and later because it all sucked ass.
We got hit in the aft shields captain!
Oh no! the peon at helm is now a charred skeleton because there's some magical connection between the aft shields and her computer console.
Things always seemed to not work when it was convenient, and then someone automagically fixed things at the end of the show. Technology in recent Trek is contrived, cheesy, and a joke.
I gave up on star trek when dickhead berman and fuckwad braga took over. they turned it from an adventure into a fucking soap opera.
DS9 was the best new series 'cos it didn't suck like voyeur and entertrite
cahult:
The movies are better. They give more space for the characters.

I don't get the big deal with people dissing Enterprise(the TV show, not the space ship in general). I guess im not much experienced in the other Startrek shows, but so far, I've found Enterprise to be an awesome show. Soap Opera? Well at least it's 1000 times better then your standard issue soap opera!
I'll have to watch more episodes I suppose, but it never occured to me that shit happened to the computers or the ship components without a good reason. Now it makes sense that energy weapons would not cause the bridge to shake, and that sparks shouldn't fly everytime the ship is hit(in fact, often sparks should never fly). Still, Enterprise is a great show for me.
