All Things Microsoft > Microsoft as a Company
FINALLY lots of people get pissed at M$ and consider switching!
Xeen:
Finally some good news!
According to a recent survey, Microsoft hatred is at an all time high, though of course they still have their supporters. 15% of the people surveyed plan to drop MS software very soon. That's not that high, but at least most others understand why MS suck so much and hate it too, just can't switch for now for various reasons.
Article can be found here, some of the responses are quite ammusing.
Faust:
Thats not 15% of people, thats 15% of respondees. ie that sample space is a bit dodgy. Nice article though.
edit:
quote:"Microsoft users are getting fed up. They're battered by worms, viruses, security patches and increasing enterprise (news - web sites) licensing costs. Aggravation has users talking about switching from Microsoft software to something else. We're trying to figure out how much of that talk is just talk, and how much is serious action. Do you seriously plan to dump Microsoft software?"

And if thats not a biased way to ask the question I dont know what is.
edit:
quote:What we've found is roughly 5% of our users would be good candidates for Linux, requiring very little handholding after initial training. The rest, well, we don't have enough staff to handle the workload it would take to train and hold hands for the rest.

That is only 15% of 967 people. That equals 145 people. That isn't even a dent in the billions of MS software users. Given, I'm sure there are more people than just those 145 who are going to switch.....but I'm sure it wouldn't be no 15% of the total user base.
Out of that survey I wonder how many of the people who participated were total, hardcore geeks? I wonder how many were just anti-MS zealots. You have to remember that there are alot more normal people than there are hardcore geeks in this world.

I'm not an anti-MS zealot. However I always come back to Linux after every attempt to install Windows XP on my laptop (even though there is a logo here that says "designed for Windows XP", go figure) Windows is just shitty, sorry. I installed it during fall break so I could do Windoze assembly with MASM on it for my assembly language class and so I could play Morrowind. Well it turns out Warcraft III runs *slower* in windows than it does in linux on my computer and any attempt to update the driver from nvidia resulted in blue screens every time I booted up windows. I finally reverted to the old driver (using system restore) just in time to go back to college. No sooner than I had been back a day then I got infested with a bunch of goddamn viruses that my virus checker couldn't delete. I gave up and put red hat linux back on the thing.
These are just anecdotes, your mileage with windows problems may be different, but for me windows is trash.
