Ahem.....Billy and Co announce a dozen new Windows holes

(1/1)

Xeen:
Today Micr$haft Corporation admitted to a few new security bugs in their software, one of which is critical.

quote:Microsoft said the flaw allows hackers to take complete control of computers running the Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.
--- End quote ---

quote: The most serious problem lies inside a program called the "workstation service," which system administrators use to add new computers to a network and other tasks. If the program receives too much data the service could crash, giving an attacker the power to install other programs and view, change or delete data from the computer, Microsoft said.
--- End quote ---

WOW. How great is it that a service that is required to run 24/7 to have any networking capabilities.

quote: The company has received no reports that hackers are exploiting any of the security holes
--- End quote ---

I'd give a few days. 2 weeks tops.
Coming Soon: "Blaster III: Coming to a PC near you"

quote: "Once hackers know a security issue exists, especially one as serious as this vulnerability, there's a lot of motivation to go ahead and create an exploit for it,"
--- End quote ---

Can you blame them? MS Software is like an open invitation for them to sharpen up on their programming techniques.

quote: Most of the other critical security holes in today's posting reside in recent versions of Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browser, which the company said could be tricked by maliciously crafted Web sites or e-mails into giving attackers control of people's computers.
--- End quote ---

Any surprises?

quote: Microsoft announced several other problems, including two new critical security vulnerabilities in Windows XP and Windows 2000 PCs running the Microsoft Front Page Server Extensions Web publishing software.
--- End quote ---

Yawn...

quote:There also is a security flaw in the company's "digital certificates," which are designed to verify the authenticity of secure Web sites and software packages. That flaw was discovered nearly a year ago
--- End quote ---

And we're just hearing about it now??????

quote:also posted security updates for several recent versions of Microsoft Office.
--- End quote ---

The Anti-Microsoft:
Since Micro$#it is now in its monthly patch cycle, I wonder how many security flaws will be found in a few days but not patched 'til December...
