QwertySoft:
First, my website, http://www.geocities.com/qwertysoftware was supposed to have a seperate section devoted to my OS project. But 1) I can't write HTML to save my own ass and 2) I have no time for that anyway. So, I keep everyone updated through a message board, qb45.com(http://www.qb45.com/forum ). Right now it ain't much, i'm programming it in QBasic to run over dos, kinda like win 3.1 but without the crashing. right now the raw code is over 500kb, so i gotta get that down to about 10% of that before i can compile version 1.1, but version 1.0 is out now(1.1 will be the first one that's got REAL OS-type features, i.e. PROGRAMS) you can get it from http://www.geocities.com/qwertysoftware/qs1_000.zip (you have to take this link, copy & paste, geocities doesnt let you remotely link to files, and i'm too cheap to get anythign else) here's a list of features to come in 1.1:
-Kernel/Script engine(whatever i can fit in it)
-Skinning
-DotQS Programming Language

and coming to the following versions:
-Wave/mp3 support
-svga modes
-color/graphical printing

believe it or not, the top 3 are gonna be easier to finish before the bottom 3 things, just due to the nature of qbasic. i'll keep this updated.

Master of Reality:
will it run on top of FreeDOS?
why do you want the raw code to be under 500kB?
You could try netfirms.com for hosting. They provide hotlinking and are a good provider (and free).

Master of Reality:
is it opensource?, will you be releasing the source code. Will it be licensed under the GPL? Are you the only one developing it?
If it was opensource i might offer my service/skills to help you and so would many others.

Why did you choose Qbasic to write it in?
