Not all newbies want to play games, but it's more important than you'd think.

maybe my bush example was quite apt after all then...

beos is perfectly fine (maybe the best choice)
if you are a n00b because it's one of the easiest OS's to use and learn. i admit its not the best for games (that's why there is Mr X and his 6 BQ2 clan members, to push the developement of open gl hardware drivers) but if you're hardcore like me, its great for games. :beos:
it can easily handle webbrowsing, email, financial managent, typing.
maybe BeOS just is too cool for some people to use, maybe just 'give up' on everything, and be a 'conformist' instead of kewl non-conformists :p :beos: :beos:
so, i dont really care what Giorgi decides to do. linux, beos, even windows 3.1.
dont think different, Be different :beos: :beos:

do you really think BeOS is best for newbies? it's kind of odd that you say you have to be "hardcore" to play games, that doesn't sound like typical newbie behaviour unless i misunderstand your vernacular.
i haven't ever used BeOS and would like to, but since i don't have a spare machine, any spare disk space, or any reliable way to obtain a working copy it has kind of been on the back burner for years* (i actually considered BeOS back in 2001 before i decided on linux, Be going bust was a major factor in this decision).
but i would like to know if you really think BeOS is a good choice for newbies. which newbies is it best for? those who want games, those who want multimedia capabilities etc, i am just interested to know why a "niche" system is good for newbies, traditionally there's a certain threshold where if a system has below a certain number of users, all the users are developers of some sort, or are using the system for a specific function (like a router, or a firewall perhaps)
* same with solaris actually
