No DOS for windows XP. The filesystem is NTFS and you can't access it from dos without special tools. What you were likely doing was using the command prompt, which has very little to do with dos.
You could check out C:\Documents and Settings\youruser\ or similar, and then do something like, "dir /s index.dat" to find things of interest.

[for example, if you were using SHITTY IE i can probe it find all the sites you went to, urls, cache, movies open, outlook express emails, hotmail emails the works.]
