I was gonna start a now topic on dvorak, but since this is already here I'll just add on.
First, QWERTY was developed mostly to promote the brand name TYPE WRITER ... note that this can all be typed using the top row QWERTYUIOP ... how interesting. More here.
There are also many tests that show dvorak is significantly more comfortable to use, since all common keys are on the home row, but not necessarily faster, or popular ... much like M$ in some remote way. You know everyone uses it cuz they don't know any better.
I use dvorak ... I actually switched soon after switching to Linux ... just to make the process all that more challanging :D
