Jenda:
Oh, and BTW, Dvorak was of Czech origin - like me :). What dissapoints me is the fact that a Dvorak Keyboard Layout is not available in Czech. Or at least not as elaborate.

The QWERTY layout was designed specifically to slow typists down. It's ended up becoming a standard by pretty much by accident.

Read the history of Dvorak and QUERTY and you'll see.

Jenda:
Toadlife: Not really. You read. The Qwerty was designed by Sholes because of jamming Typewriters, but not to slow ppl down, just to separate common digraphs (th, ei, ie, ck, st etc.). The slow-'em-down thing is a myth. I begin to realise just how I hate this random keyboard layout...

Refalm:
I can't convert my keyboard to Dvorak, since it's a British one ;)

Okay, yes it was designed to keep fast typists from jamming mechanical typewriters, but then end result was the same - it slowed people down. A permanent solution to a temporary problem.
