I got problems. My dad's compter managed to contract a virus named "Trojan horse.Downloader.Generic.UEO" file name "ounjd.exe." He's running Microsuck XP with Grisoft Free AVG and can't get rid of the virus or find the original file. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?
-
Yea, format the drive and install GNU/Linux ;)
-
*ahem*
Now come closer. Closer. Closer.
THIS IS NOT A WINDOWS HELP FORUM!
Futhermore, you posted in the wrong forum.
Here are the steps to fixing your computer in three easy steps.
1)Install GNU/Linux
2)Install GNU/Linux
3)Install GNU/Linux
I can recomend Ubuntu. (http://www.ubuntu.com/)
-
Hehe ... I know what they're gonna say ...
install it 3 times ... why would you do that ?
Anyway yes ... there are actually 2 steps:
1) Install Linux (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Linux_Guide/Installing_Linux) (repeat until it works in case of failiure)
2) Virus Killer (http://www.parallelrealities.co.uk/virusKiller.php) will take care of that virus quick and ez ... but it takes skillz (yeah it kinda gets boring after a while)
-
Boot into safe mode, run regedit, and find all references to it. Delete them.

Don't use Windows.

Don't like the idea of Linux?
You could always have a go with BeOS or BSD or ReactOS.

[real advice]
install avast, update it, and do a boot-time scan.

You don't think installing an alternative to Microsoft's operating system is real advice?

Certainly, and it would be effective, but this is someone's Dad, who might not want linux on his computer.
-
He might prefer BSD, because Linux pwns it according to your avatar, even better it shafts it.

I think you mean "it pwns Linux"...

BSD in no way pwns Linux ... seriously

FLAMEWAR!
So how many kernel vulnerabilities did your favorite distro release patches for last month? :D

If wouldn't want linux he sure as heck wouldn't want BSD.

Several I'm sure ... but until a vulnerability is exploited, it doesn't matter. So, you're saying that more kernel patches for Linux indicate a kernel full of holes. So the BSD kernel never needs patches ... or seldom does ... is it because there are fewer vulnerabilities or fewer exploits found and patched ?
Oh and this:
