I want to hookup a small webcam to my computer to take simple pictures and videos (I don't mind the low quality). Can anyone recommend one that works good with Linux?

I wouldn't go so far as to recommend the 3Com Homeconnect Netcam but it does work. I just did a tip on it for Red Hat actually:

They were discontinued by 3Com but another company picked it up and started producing them again under a different name:
