Title: Zeta Review

A very nice review of the Zeta.  It also has some good historical background  on BeOS, including things that I didn't know.

For example, I did know that BeOS was once considered by Apple to be the replacement for it's decrepit Mac OS, but I didn't know it was rejected because the head of BeOS thought he had the upper hand and held out for too much money.  He was quoted as saying "I've got Apple by the balls, and I'm going to squeeze hard until it hurts."

Dumbass... oh well, at least we have OS X now because of his ego.

I've used BeOS for over a week, but this looks even more promising, because they modernised the whole BeOS experience.

I've heard some school in Czech wants Zeta to be on their computers.

If it weren't $129, I'd give it a swing... but ya know... it is.

Why, isn't it available on BitTorrent?

That wouldn't be right! :o

That, and the nag screen in an OS would get old... fast :D

Mr X also bought his BeOS R5 professional there for $30. It's worth it :)

To those who don't already know- there are 'free editions' of BeOS , that are just as good as the pro edidtion (all you get are some rare programs like RealPlayer, some mp3, videos , special online installers of BeOS, it is more of a 'collectors edition' of BeOS or what have you)

Currently BeOS Max 3.1 is out, I havent tried it but when I was at Mr X's house he shows me how good his BeOS pro is, his desktop is always so cluttered with things from BeBits.com he downloads all the time though

Refer to Mr X's web page about BeOS. Includes links.

Okay, here's my annoyance with BeOS minor though it may be.  How can an allegedly "next-gen" system not have wireless support?  Are you telling me that both of the Be developers out there can't find time to do that?

The gui looks very suspiciously like old Irix.

it was made in 2000, when wireless wasnt exactly 'all the rage'
and besides, it's those wireless companie's fault they didnt make the drivers for BeOS, maybe because nobody uses it?
