Title: Palladium = NGSCB?
Post by: slvadcjelli42 on 20 July 2003, 23:33
What's this? Microsoft has changed the name of their ominous-sounding plan from "Palladium" to "Next-Generation Secure Computing Base (NGSCB)"? (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/ngscb/ngscb_overview.mspx) Is it just me, or is Palladium a much more catchy name than NGSCB, LOL? (I realize this is a little old, but this is the first I've heard about it [seems to me that everyone is sticking with "Palladium"])

P.S. I especially love the part "NGSCB is designed to provide protection for critical data against malicious software, such as viruses, Trojan horses, and spyware, while preserving the openness of the Windows operating system."

Oh not again!!!!!!

This is one of those stupid little tricks M$ plays. When public or sector opinion starts to go against a product they change it's name......Idiots

That's old news. Most people in the know still call it Palladium, though. To me it looks like a red herring designed to distract all the bad press from their initiative, while pushing NGSCH and .net.

yes you are right, They changed it's name about 4 -5 month ago ? I'd forgotten that. That though is what they want..........CONFUSION

.net is the biggest pile of crap, I work with essentially the Apache version of .NOT (Cocoon (http://cocoon.apache.org/2.1/)), essentially I'd call it middleware, Sun and IBM have their own middleware offerings, essentially these though are all built on agreed standards, usually heavily laced with JAVA. Everyone else seems to be able to keep to standards except M$. C#, F# and loads of other standards that I simply don't care about. They seem to invent these "standards" for know reason other than to own them and thus the people that use them.

hehe. Steve certainly though so:

1984 (http://www.uriah.com/apple-qt/1984.html)

quote:
Today, we celebrate the first glorious anniversary of the Information Purification Directives. We have created, for the first time in all history, a garden of pure ideology. Where each worker may bloom secure from the pests of contradictory and confusing truths. Our Unification of Thoughts is more powerful a weapon than any fleet or army on earth. We are one people, with one will, one resolve, one cause. Our enemies shall talk themselves to death and we will bury them with their own confusion. We shall prevail!

They had to change the name because some other company copyrighted Palladium for a computer product already.
