I hate Microsoft once again. I'm sick of the way Micrsoft makes their products. Why does MS make a disposable, non-upgradable, yet $400-600 OS? This is all Windows CE is. Why does anyone want this crap? In two years, you have to throw your PocketPC away and buy another one to stay current. IT'S JUST SUPPOSED TO BE AN ORGANIZER!!!
-
Apparently PocketPCs have less battery life than Palms.

Does anyone know if QNX is in any PDA, or likely to be?
-
Some managed to run QNX on iPaqs, it seems.

You don't have to throw it away to stay current. My Ipaq 3670 still keeps track of my schedules just fine. And OS upgrades are up to the manufacturer of the device, probably due to specialized hardware. Ipaq had an upgrade from Pocket PC to 2002, but most other ones didn't.

PalmOS has a lot of BeOS code in it.

Yes, I know all too well. I wanted a color display back when I thought I would still work in both worlds (open and closed source.) So I bought a Jornada based on the strength of HP's powerful handhelds (CX41, 48SX, 48GX) that I used in my work. I wanted RPN calculation and this model had it and it had a good design on the exterior, but the innards were CE. I am still trying to rationalize the expense.

i traded my iPaq for two computers. a p3 650 & a p2 450, both working, both fully functional. Was much better than the iPaq. the only thing i miss about it was the money app. i would be out, shopping etc, and i could just input all of my spending as i went, then when i got home, it would sync with money on my pc. That is the only thing. but. i do have a check book. i could always use that ;)
-
"sync with money on the PC"?
do you mean "microsoft money"? my ex flatmate used that religiously. it used to dial microsoft every time he started it up. he didn't know why and it didn't worry him.
if i ever use such a program it will be gnucash i think.
-
Yes, of all M$'s insidious creatures Money is the one! It wants to take over browser duties, make endless copies of itself, and report back to the mother ship.
Gnucash is very solid and you can import all Money and Quicken files into it. Transaction splits are a problem for all three programs.
-
yes. i used microsoft money. its a shame and i will now bow my head and sit in the corner :(
-
Microsoft dropped the price on Windows CE and realeased source code dummy. (Probably as a marketing experiment).
-
Shared source is NOT open source, dummy.
-
Old but true...
Win CE + Win ME + Win NT = Windowz CEMENT
Hard as a rock, dumb as a brick and all of it is CRAP!
:D
