I've got a stack of PC games knee-deep that I never get to play, so I'm building a gaming machine. I'm looking into BeOS, since I heard it's a good gaming OS and I'm loathe to put any more M$ bullshit on my machines than I absolutely have to. Does anybody use it? Will it support any game that's supposed to run in Win?
-
probaly not unless you use some wine and deep voodoo magic, but i have used it and it is sweet.
-
No, your games won't run, but BeOS (no more, Be they closed) is firggen KICK ASS. I even talk to one of the kernel developers sometimes :) . (he made his AIM publicly available).

Im interested in this OS, how good are they on Laptops? Infact how good is their hardware support.
-
pretty good, you can download it at www.bebits.com (http://www.bebits.com) it supports a fair amount of hardware but i havn't used it as much as linux or the *bsd's. as for it being closed, their is a project called openbeos that is rebuilding it. but it's still in its infancy.

Hrmmm...OK I was under the impression, from what I had heard, that BeOS had been created specifically with gaming in mind....I'm trying to not have any M$ or Winblows in my home, but it looks like I'm gonna hafta if I wanna run all these games. And I'm no voodoo programmer (yet), so that rules that out. Blast.

Uh, GAMING OS?
Hehe.
More like a media OS.

i have to say:
http://openbeos.org/ (http://openbeos.org/)
no discussion of BeOS would be complete without that link nowadays.

Why not just get Linux with WineX(CVS)?
