Ya, Amigans, their out there.

Are there any on the board?

If so, I'm curious, what the hell can you do with the things? What software do they run etc.

I'm thinking I may get one as a sort of novelty/toy computer  :D  No offence, but what can you do with an AMIGA of all things???

about as much as you could do with a Quadra 840av. Many Amigas have some badass media abilities.

This (http://www.coax.net/people/erics) is the only guy I know who still uses an Amiga.  Check out the part of his website where he rants about how he hates Microsoft so much and how great his amiga is.  He even has his own comic strip too... don't ask me how amigas can connect to the internet though..

Uh, WXPUser, later models of Amigas came standard with ethernet (some had expansion slots, you could add on) and you can run a good chunk of GNU stuff on them, not to mention the "official" Amiga web browsers.

As for the Amiga's multimedia capabilities, their video cards were fantastic, especially the Video Toaster.

All the computer graphics for Seaquest DSV were done on an Amiga.  For a 1994 show they were pretty good.

if you get an amiga, i would recommend to you that you keep the original Workbench OS on it instead of going to Linux. Workbench is a refined enough OS for everyday use, and it's what Windows definitely should be (it uses a subset of DOS in the background, like w9x... except this one works).

Besides, there are great games for the Amiga that you can only play in the original OS.  ;)

I've just rediscovered the new Amiga and came across this forum, so i thought i'd give you the info on the new Amiga.

OS4 is NOT based on Linux - its a completely reworked version of the classic OS.  OS4 isn't out yet (will be in January/February), but will run on classic Amiga h/w with PowerPC accelerators AND on the AmigaONE.

The AmigaONE is a ppc based computer made by Eyetech  under contract from Amiga inc.  It can run LinuxPPC and AmigaOS.

There's still a big Amiga community, and its now expanding for the first time in a while.  If your interested, try the forums at Amiga.com (http://os.amiga.com/forums/index.php)

OS4 is basically similar to OS3.x, but with any low-level references to the outdated "classic" Amiga custom chips and cpus removed and more support written in for modern h/w.  The kernel has been changed quite a bit, but it's still bsaed on the original one (isn't mach the bsd-type kernal that mac osx runs on? - i dont know much about macs, though    )

mach is a microkernel, and for the referance, anything can run on mach, even linux. and yes osx does run on mach. the cool part of osx, is that its mach, netbsd, and a bit of freebsd./*correct me if im wrong*/ however, i though that  the next amigaos was going to be based on two "box's" running ontop of mach. one was practally the original amigaos for compatibilty and the other one was something new.

Amiga isn't based on mach, but MorphOS has a similar idea (morphos is a kind of AmigaOS clone)

AFAIK MorphOS runs on the "quark" microkernel and has 2 "boxes" - the "Abox", which will run some original Amiga software and the "Qbox" which is still under development and will do new stuff.

I don't know much about morphos, but this page (http://www.blachford.info/morphos/morphos_in_detail.html) has lots of info.

I think you're thinking of Rhapsody, the product that eventually matured into OS X... Rhapsody had the "yellow box" (Rhapsody apps), "Blue Box" (classic apps) and so forth, running on top of Mach.
