Title: Ubuntu 10.10. Issues.
Post by: Lead Head on 6 December 2010, 01:41
I'm having some issues with Ubuntu 10.10 and an ATI Radeon HD 4770. Every time I install the AMD Proprietary drivers, the whole system becomes terribly unresponsive. The mouse jerks around the screen lazily, Gnome responds slow, but fancy graphical animations still work fine? Any ideas?

Gave up. Tried updating the kernel, tried multiple driver updates. Going back to 10.04.

You could've tried this first:
Code: [Select]
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Tried updating X as well. No luck. Seems to be a widespread issue with a 24 page thread on the Ubuntu forums. There is no solid fix. Guess what? 10.04 started doing the same damn thing.

I'm going to give Fedora 14 a try and see if its an issue with this computer, or Ubuntu.

Well not even Fedora running KDE resolved the issue. Looks like it is some big problem between X and ATI.
