Title: Games?

I just bought a new computer, (AMD, GeForce 4, DDR RAM)mainly for games. It came with windows, of course. I really dont like microsoft (Mainly because they will be the fall of console gaming, which is a different story) and I want to start using a different OS. Are Many games linux compatible? Is there any windows emulator, not that I would use anything illeagle im just curiouse *cough* *cough*. And most of all what is the best Version of linux for a gamer like me?

yes and yes. there are a few windows emulators. WINE is the free one, WINEX and Win4Lin are pay ones which are supposed to be a bit better, there's a DOS emulator too called dosemu.

I suggest trying out mandrake or red hat or both (maybe mandrake is a little easier at first) to start with. many games are available for linux, but often not the exact same ones that are available for windows.

These games are ported to Linux(not the only ones but the only ones i know):
Return To Castle Wolfenstein
Unreal Tournament
Unreal Tournament 2003

And of course you can get WINE/WineX/Win4Lin

WINE:
Not really centerd on games but it is going through alot of changes with Direct3D, so i'd say stay tuned. It doesn't include InstallShield, but alot of games use it.

WineX:
This one is centerd on games and it is payware, however you can download it off CVS, CVS is a program which downloads the latest code of some software. It is the only way to get WineX for free(excluding warez) but it does not include InstallShield, So, if I were  you i'd do something like installing Windows(Not XP/NT/2000, only 95/98/98SE and maybe ME) on a 300~400mb partition and use it for installshielding. Of course, this means you should have a win cd laying around somewhere.
