Blu-Ray is going to require MicroSoft's patented VC-1 Codec.  HD-DVD already incorporated MS' patented video codecs.

Guess what this means for Open Source Video Players?

All this news means is that MS has won the battle to have their codec be one of the 3 codecs that will be required to be supported on all next generation dvd players. But when making the choice of which codec to use, filmmakers will still have the choice of the MS codec, MPEG-4, and MPEG-2. I for one will never use MS.
