It's been a few years since the introduction of TCPA, and so far, all we've seen are DRM sound files.
-
well the first ive heard of it and its so gay. i cant use my own hardware, which i do build.
-
good god that scared the shit out of me
-
Heh yeah. Apple is apparently using similar technology for less-evil reasons - stopping OS X running on generic PCs, rather than generic PCs running non-windows.
-
I wonder if it will be overcome by Pc emulator (i mean HardWare Emulation as well
as software :] )
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO O_O
/me runs and hides from TCPA
-
The way I understand the TCPA specification, it's nothing like the people fear it is like. It's going to be a good thing. Ofcourse, I could be wrong, but having actually read the stuff myself, it seems safe and good :P

Why would they stay out of it when they can use it to go beyond the preinstallation monopoly they have now and force PC makers to use TCPA chips that won't allow non-Windows OSes to run?

The next time someone asks you to pay them back a $10.000 bet, pay them in dinar. Iraqi Dinar. I'll even help you find someone to loan you out the C-130 you'll need to drop it over their house. :D

Hello, China? I've got something you're gonna want, but it's gonna cost you.
That's right. All the tea.

It's a technology, just like any other: neither good nor bad in and of itself. Like any other technology, it can be abused. Given MS's track record, expect that. If they do something like use this to shut out other OSs and apps, perhaps, the gov't will get serious about a real anti-trust suit.
-
anti-trust lawsuit? yeah right, we are fucked.
