Hey if anybody has Pathminder I lost it :( I hadn't found 1 site that has it for download. I wonder why.... :confused:
Any help would be nice! :confused:
-
Uhm... we dont hand out programs. At least I dont think we do.
I havent been around to notice if we do.
-
Is it GPL?
-
Whats a GPL?
-
GNU General Public Licence. It's a licence from the FSF -- Free Software Foundation. Any software covered under the GNU GPL is freely distributable and must include source code, which anyone is free to modify or use in their own projects. Any modification or new release of the software or software using the code has to be released under the GPL. There are many other licences as well, such as the BSD licence, Artistic Public licence, OSS licence and many others.
This is different from Public Domain in that the author keeps credit and ownership of his software, and is free to change the licence of any subsequent release.

Call me ignorant but what is pathminder ?
-
It's a company that makes optical turnstiles, according to Google...
-
NO! It is a company(today) But its an old program by some decked out company called Westlake Data Corporation.
I used to have it on my old PC (IBM DOS) before the C: ribbon got disconnected and I have no idea what happened.
-
(I'm Michael Barrera, changed name tho)
I just got it from this guy who visited my site.

I would like to view some files created by TWIN Classic Spreadsheet software by Mosaic (A Lotus look-a-like). This is a application that runs on PathFinder. The files were created by a DOS version of the software. The files have a .wkt file name extension.
I do not have any version of the Mosaic or Lotus software. Is there a WIN9x software that would view or convert these files?
Thank you!
Gary

Also, Did you ever find a copy of PathFinder? I may have access to a copy if you need it?
-
Download Pathminder from here:
Moderator edit:
Warez link removed.

this is quite an intriguing thread, simply because it's the type of thread usually not seen here.
glad you're all managing to get this old pathminder software anyway. what is it anyway? a small GUI for DOS? is it like a midnight commander or emacs sort of environment, or is ti more complex?
-
Hi and welcome to the forum.
Please be aware that even though Pathfinder is a really old piece of software, it's still protected by copyright law. Therefore copying it without permission from the copyright holder is still illegal and is why I have removed the link from your post as it violates both the law and the rules for this forum
-
does it? how come they're allowed to host it for download then? is that site illegal?
-
Copyrights last for a long time.
That site is Russian, need I say any more.
-
I used Pathminder extensively in the middle 1980s into the 90s. It was strictly MS-DOS and was very useful in tracking my computer usage. I understand a Windows 3.1 version came out; but, was not commercially sucessful.
What I'd like to know if there are any products similar to it? It kept a log of what programs I'd used and the length of time running them. As a CPA, I definitely have a need for this.
BTW, this site has a free download of the "abandoned" pathminder: (if the link is removed search for it at Censored):
Link removed.
MODERATOR EDIT:
Links to copyrighted software and site which publishes copyrighted software removed. [/COLOR]
Thanks.
-
Hearingthe concept of this pathminder i now want to know if there's similiar more up-to-date products (free or otherwise)?
-
Next person who posts a link to PathMinder or a site were it can be downloaded from gets banned.
I removed the link for a reason, do not re-post it!
If you believe that the said software has been released to the public domain or copyright is unenforceable then post some strong reliable evidence indicating this and I might reconsider.
-
Yeah, guys, if you're going to do it anyways, please keep that shit to PMs until some precedent is established. *hint hint* :D
-
it is taking the piss though to add a link into a thread when you can see that the link has already been removed by a moderator. that's the sort of thing that deserves a ban in fact.
-
well, i received an email from somebody with further comments about this software, i'll withhold his name since that seems to be the reason he's emailed, rather than signed up on the board, anyway, here's what he said:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We were shooting the breeze around the office on a Friday and I
mentioned PathMinder in a conversation. I googled to find out what
happened and ran across your forum. I really didn't want to join
because I am afraid of Bill Gates (jk), but thought you might want to
post some info for the poor guy who started trying to find out what it
was.
PathMinder was a textbased semi-gui solution to the limitations of DOS
which had its demise written on the release of Windows 3.0. History is
actually on Wikipedia. I used it as standard operating equipment on
all my client's machines because no matter where they were when they
called me for service, I could give them a precise set of keystrokes
that would help me solve their problem. Those were the days. People
still aren't any smarter, too bad nothing exists like that anymore.
Good luck tilting at the windmill that is Microsoft.
