Constantly hearing how great Mozilla is, I just downloaded it for the first time ever (been using Netscape before).
Now maybe I'm missing something, but I seriously cannot see 1 bit of a difference between Netscape and Mozilla. Same looks, same options, same menus, etc.. And it seems to work the same too. So what exactly is the difference between them, and which is better and why?
Also I've noticed one small problem with Mozilla so far:
I downloaded the latest Java runtime from Sun, and while installing it, the wizard did not detect Mozilla and so did not ask whether to integrate java with it or not. It only detected Netscape and Internet Exploder.

Netscape is based off of Mozilla. I have no idea why the java installer didn't detect mozilla, maybe its because netscape is mozilla, and it was confused.

Netscape 7.1 is based on Mozilla 1.4, so obviously there's very little difference besides the brand and some proprietary bits you don't get with Mozilla. Netscape tends to lag behind Mozilla, though.
As for Java, did you try to install from the .xpi file? It's the standard way to install plug-ins in Mozilla. It should be available on Sun's website, in the Java section.

If it detected and installed the Netscape plugin, chances are, Java works just fine on Mozilla as well.
-
I heard that Netscape didn't block pop ups
-
Yes, it does.

Netscape and Mozilla are at the core, the same browser. But netscape is hacked up by AOL before its released. This hacking up takes time, and newer versions of mozilla are always out before their netscape counterparts.

firebird is the best...

Mozilla FireBird is Great and Skinable, User Friendly, Free, Secure, Pop-up Stopper, Better Privacy!

JRE2 now supports Mozilla! It even inserted the non-GRE3 plug-in that Mozilla needed, and everything automatic. Thanks Sun (http://smile.gif)

The only difference I've seen between Netscape and Mozilla is Netscape seemed to load the pages slower. Other than that they're about the same.

I run firebird, it is teh r0x0r.
