http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/04/20/ms_emergency_patent/
"The present invention provides a method and system for maintaining emergency data in a manner that provides straightforward user access thereto via a displayed emergency page (or set of pages) or other suitable user interface,"
That has to be one of the vaguest invention descriptions I've ever heard. Seriously, who the hell works at the Patent Office these days??? They obviously don't rubber stamp these applications.....especially considering that this particular application was filed a month after 9/11. It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out that this patent is void on grounds of prior art. I guess Luddites still exist.
-
I don't think we have to worry about software patents as half of them are so retarded they won't hold up in a court of lay anyway.

That's an insult to Luddites everywhere.

I'm a luddite and i hate the concept of software patents!

I'm amazed nobody has picked up on my unintentional humour regarding Einstein and patents. I found myself giggling for a few minutes after typing that little gem.

I hate the concept of Microsoft patenting everything in sight.

The problem is that the US Patent Office has gone completely nutz. They grant patents for some of the damnedest things these days, that Microsoft really doesn't have much choice other than to file these things. They have the deepest pockets around, and that's a ripe target for someone else to come along and beat them to a "patent", that could have them in a position to basically settle out of court, as fighting the suit would be more expensive.
That, in turn, could lead to an "open season" on bleeding them with these frivolous patents. To prevent that, they aggressively file first, regardless of the merits of the patent. Lawyers run amok is what's causing this.

Stupid software patents: Threatening aMSN and VLC - two apps I use every day. There are millions of others as well....

I think everyone got it, but they chose to stay on topic and not post about it.

Thats totally insane.

Do you REALLY need to spell it M-dollar sign.
It really doesn't make you look mature, in fact, it makes you look very immature,
Just a little aside.
-
It's also immature to constantly whine about how people choose to deride what they don't like, especially in a forum called 'Microsuck'.
-
Ju$t $aying M$ i$ ok, but if you over-u$e it it doe$ make your po$ts hard to read. How dare you Microsoft rool$ M$ i$ much better than Lin$pire Lin$ux and open $ource $oftware or Macinto$h O$. :D
-
/me high-fives Aloone
-
Aloone_Jone$, I hope you didn't mean that. (Although it might be better that Linspire)

It's called credibility, I wonder why all the front page articles don't use it?
Using things like that makes it look like you have run out of facts to bash Microsoft with.
Weak.

Ok serious mode on. :D

I can see your point, but this site's name doesn't help matters however, everything in moderation is fine.
I personally use M$ more when I'm joking but I'll still use it to add emotion to what I'm saying. For example in this context "Another M$ patent" the author implies they're pissed off with Microsoft's greed. I might say
