Title: 16 Things That Turn Netsurfers Off
Post by: DavidB on 4 August 2005, 23:25: The amazing thing is that Microsoft is NOT mentioned on this list.

Just for fun, some of the high-tech gurus on this forum should point out items that do somehow involve Microshaft, though. For example, some slow-loading pages may be suffering from FrontPage code bloat.

You click a link, and a new window opens - except it's a very tiny window, and it's advertising something.

Actually, you don't necessarily have to click a link; there are various ways of triggering pop-ups.

Don't know how you missed them - they're everywhere. The most annoying kind is the kind that uses JavaScript to detect when you're trying to leave their site and reloads the site for you. On such sites, if you get into the back submenu, you can skip straight to the page you really wanted. I don't know what kind of asshole came up with that, but I hope they bump their heads really hard at least once a week.

I don't know if Firefox is blocking them, or if they just aren't around as much anymore. Perhaps the popups that Aloone-Jonez sees all the time are Windows-specific - meaning that they rely on non-standard JavaScript methods that only IE supports. Because I have literally not seen an unwanted popup yet this year.
