Title: MicroShat Mouse
Post by: MrX on 8 June 2004, 21:33
Having just broken my plain two button scroll wheel microshat mouse from getting angry with windoze 98 i put in my usb optical intellimouse explorer. its confy and okay, but the software sucks. the intellipoint driver crut version 5.0 soposably checks for updates every minute! slowing the computer down. and the intellimouse explorer version i have(older one with two big buttons on the side for browsing the web, new version has two very small buttons) well, every single one of those mice had a big problem with the cord. it shorts out making the mouse useless. you need to take about 3 inches off the connection to the mouse and totally re-do it. now it works fine. but when i go to scroll, about 1 in 10 times, it jumps to the end of the page when its sopposed to go only 3 lines at a time. tsk tsk.

Yeah, well that's why MS is primarily a software company and not hardware.  And we know how good their software is   (http://graemlins/scared.gif)

Get a Logitech or something.

yes, that new sideways scroll mouse is cool. at the comp. store, the microsoft mouse was more confy than the logitech. well, neways, when i get my linux mandrake on mybox, i will use the mouse. the mouse is pretty, good, just the driver software stinks. on the mandrake linux site, my intellimouse explorer is compatible. yay. next time you get a mouse, and if its microshat, plan to use it on linux mandrake or someting. just dont get a microsoft mouse to use with windoze!!! ;

I have gone thru too many mice. I don't purchase lazer mice because I just know after a few months the buttons will start to go. I got 6 mice for $3 each and so far I have gone thru 4. Its so annoying.

I would NEVER purchase MS hardware. Not a router, not a mouse, not a PC (or any of those WinPCs or WinModems) simply because it is from MS. Bad enough they have an OS monopoly, they shouldn't be allowed to get into hardware.

I use the intelli mouse explorer 3.0...It's nice, and works well on my suse box, even though I haven't found a driver that will activate my side buttons.

In windows the side buttons are nice because you can set them to do things like the forward and back button. It's very handy when you do a lot of reading and have to reference back to another document. If you use a tabbed browser you can set it to open, close or switch tabs as well. But like I said, in my linux box, the side buttons are just an additional spring supply for when the other two buttons wear out.

PseudoRandom Dragon, instead of getting a $3 cheap-ass mouse you have to replace every day, get something like a logitech MX510 which has 800dpi sensor 9/10 and kick-ass product award.its $50, so thats the equivelent of:
16.6 of those cheap mice. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/CA/EN,CRID=3,CONTENTID=8070 (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/CA/EN,CRID=3,CONTENTID=8070)
its really cool. check it out, it wont make you as fustrated

I like a simple 3-button optical mouse from hp. No bloat and it doesn't create RSI like the MX5000 or something. It's just too huge.

Word up.  I've been using my wacom since 1998 I think.  Had to replace a pen once but other than that it's working FINE.

Only thing it's not good for is games...

And, oh yeah, it works with Linux and FreeBSD

the Pen is great for playing Total Annihilation, but it can annoy for FPS gaming.

Hmm i have a Microsoft Mouse, and it has worked from day one perfectly I dont see what you guys do so wrong.
Im using a custom built Amd based computer with Microsoft Windows XP, and well to put it frankly it works perfectly. Also my old Apple I mac damn I hated that thing, it was slow could not support any of the programs i loved and well it just sucked. One of these days I may become a Apple fan but for now its Windows all the way!

Hmph?, If Windows works for you then just use it, we don't give a fuck, I use Windows too and it dosen't work very well for me, but neither does Linux for that matter.

I have a Logitech optical mouse, and it's the best mouse I have ever had.

Everything Aloone just stated applies to me too.  I wish linux worked better for me but it does not run everything I need it to run.  I also happen to have a Logitech optical mouse.

Is this a Mac disto?

Your profile says that you use OSX, do you have a PC as well?

What didn't work for you in Linux?

I like OSX the most, but I dont use it the most.  And actually I created my user for this site like 2 years ago before I had a PC, and only had a mac.  Linux is awesome, but I have not spent the time to learn it well, plus it does not run everything I need it to run.  I do, however, use Slackware Linux to run my personal server.

Hey man I was just posting my feelings on what is the right os for ME. I wasnt saying that Windows beats out Mac and linux. I agree with Paladin, this Os suites me the best. The others dont do what I need them to do. I find it a bit harsh that ALoone said "Hmph?, If Windows works for you then just use it, we don't give a fuck" to a very non agresive post. I wasnt Pushing Windows down your throat.
