Title: Build WineX from source ?

If you don't want to spend 5 bucks on WineX/Cedega, you can always try compile it yourself.

Can it really be done ? Maybe I'll try it when I have more time. Only limitations are:

I remember there was a script for compiling that. But on IRC I was advised not to bother (too complicated I think), so off to torrentspy I went.

Someone REALLY should make a simple script to do it all.

That would be awsome, but without texture compression..ouch

I should also point out that it's $5... per month, over  a minimum three-month obligation.  Thus, the software is $15, not $5.

Yeah ... I'd call that false advertising ... I mean if you pay them $5 they won't give you a month of service ... you gotta pay $15 for 3

I bet they make it hard to compile so no one bothers to and either torrents the not-so-legal version or buys a subscription.

I tried to compile it once.  Couldn't do it.

I gave up because Wine itself works first time...

actually I think I compilied it but couldn't do the setup because of course there are no instructions.

There was a setup app for Wine somewhere that worked fine.

I can't believe you didn't throw "Cedega$$$" or "Tran$world Gaming" in there. :p

I don't know why you're bitching $15 isn't that much, lots of software costs 10 or even 100 times that amount, what's the matter with you are you all cheap arses or something?

I see what you mean about unfair advertising though, but that's my only complaint.

From what I've heard the cvs version lacks many features from the retail one. I wouldn't recommend it.

I subscribed and paid for Cedega.

I couldnt get point2play or whatever they call that peice of software working after 5.0 cedega released.

Cedega 5.0+ wouldn't install on my ubuntu distribution, but worked fine on Fedora Core

I still need to make some modifications to the configurations when I want to play games. My best example: When i start World of Warcraft in my Fedora Core 4 distro with Cedega 5.0.1 (i think), i can not target anything with the mouse. I had to do a google search to find what lines to change/add in the config file to make it work like normal.

Not difficult, but annoying nontheless. It's pretty cool being able to play games under linux and NOT having to bootup windows all the time. Worth the $5/month. (Even if they make you pay for 3 months, i don't care. $15, so what! The money is going towards making Cedega/p2p a better program so that I can keep playing the newer games as they come out)

Well ... you're right $15 ain't much ... but adverising $5 a month is sneaky/fishy. I don't like companies that do this almost false advertising shit ... it ruins their image (for me at least). When they advertise the truth up front $15 for 3 months ... instead of only $5 a month (minimum 3 month subscription required), I'll think about buying a subscription.
