Post by: Ostfarmare on 24 March 2003, 19:34
Missing space:
0,5 on C:\,
1 on D:\,
1 on E:\.
OS: Win 98

Each drive should have 1,9 GB, but when wieving the size of the folders, disk space is missing as stated above. Reason? Cure?

you can download software which will eliminate this problem from this site here (http://linuxiso.org/).

by the way, did you look down the back of the sofa? usually i find that stuff which is missing often turns up there.

Well, but is there a cure given that you keep Win 98?

Might ask www.windowsBBS.com (http://www.windowsBBS.com) if you want to keep win98.

Otherwise go to the link Calum said  :D

You shouldn't keep Windows 98 at all. You should delete it and forget about it.

I faced similar problem.I took out my HDD for to my friend .Copied some data. When I came back found that all data was missing .I thought i copied ti in wrong place. But windows was showing correct occupied space. Then  ran ScanDisk from DOS promt it showed erro but recovered all files.
This happens each time i copy something on HDD or even copy something from RedHat 8.0 on FAT32 drive.
I had to scandisk to get files.
Windows really sucks!

Well I dont think its Windows' fault this time. Technicly, "gigabytes" are not just a 1,000,000,000 bytes, its like 1,020,384,382. So while my HD is a 20gb (as in 1 million bytes) the computer reads it as 18.6 (as the larger gigabyte.)
