quote:
Linux Is Not Free
While the Linux kernel may be available at no charge under Open Source, the total cost profile of an embedded device is a function of multiple factors, including:

Opportunity cost of investing in operating system development versus differentiating via form factor design and/or value-add applications and services.
Availability and experience of the development team (or 3rd party expertise for hire).
Potential porting costs.
Cost of writing specific hardware drivers or libraries when none exist.
Investment required to continually develop or acquire the missing features or functionality demanded by the rapidly evolving embedded market.
Hardware and personnel costs for code testing, maintenance and support.
Expense of ensuring intellectual property is protected appropriately.

Wow, what a load of marketing bullshit! They compare XP to Me and 2000 and conclude that XP is better than Linux!

LMAO. Notice how they throw around so much indecipherable jargon? This fools you, so it's harder to see the bullshit.

I don't really understand any of that shit, but it obviously looks like desperation on the part of M$.

I think they are dealing with the realization that, regardless of how many bells and whistles you stick in M$ products, Linux will always be in demand.
It's funny to see how much effort they put into fighting an intangible entity such as Linux. They're strategy has always been to buy, or undercut the competition.
You can't buy Linux, and you can't drive it into bankruptcy.

The stories about M$ buying Redhat are hilarious too! Even if they did, what would happen? I know I wouldn't be using Redhat anymore! I'd be installing something else 5 seconds after I was sure it wasn't another hoax! LOL!

"Linux is not free"

Boy, it's sure a good thing they told me. I've only been using it for 10 years and haven't spent a penny. Hmmm, who should I pay? Or do they mean it is not Free (as in speech)? If so, I also have all the source code for my entire distribution. Maybe someone made a mistake when they included that?
