Title: You know Windows sucks when...........
Post by: Bazoukas on 29 August 2002, 12:50
.....you are forced to use it for homework for some intro class you should have taken ages ago but always avoided it,,,,,and as you do your homework for tomorows Midterm, You have Winamp open, Word, Excell and at the same time Downloading RH7.3.......and you are scared shitless because you see Win98 draging its ass after few hours of work....and your head is buzzing with fear because you are afraid you gonna loose 401MB (with 200MB to go) of Download if this Win98 give you the blue screen.

 You may say why not Win2k? CAUSE IT DOESNT SUPPORT ALL OF MY HARDWARE THATS WHY!!!!

  RH even recocnized my GamePad,even though companies are still sceptical about porting games in X  :(

But see Win2k won't give you a BSOD, instead it will just reboot your computer.  (http://smile.gif)

You've never seen a BSOD in Win2K? Then consider yourself lucky. They are there, and they do appear.

I have been a 2kBSOD victim.

 But i have to admit. Win2k, doesnt crach like Win98. Win98 is just a ho for BSDO.

there's a setting in the registry for win2k and beyond that will reboot the computer instead of displaying the BSOD; so it is still there, you just won't see it unless you turn [AutoReboot] or some such drivel off.

My supervisor had a win2k laptop; he uninstalled a bunch of crap at the same time; including a mysterious entry in the Add/Remove Programs section titled: Unknown.  He figured if it was unknown, it couldn't be important.... so uninstalled it became.  Then the Windows Install Shield appeard telling him that "windows is prepareing to install the selected application" and the computer promptly rebooted.  Everytime windows finished loading, the same message box would appear, and then the computer would shut down.  he, my dad-in-law, and me spent 7 hours trying to figure out what it was.  even CTL-ALT-DEL didn't halt the inevitable; and safe mode was broke.  It would simply hang when tried.  So to the computer shop he went, and they tried much of the same shit we did, and finally they put the harddrive into another computer, transfered all his personal data over, and wiped the original.  complete re-install.  what a shame.

This is the best example of "those people" (no offense)

Those people who don't backup their shit!

Those people who would rather screw around trying to fix Windows for 7 hours (once again no offense) instead of doing a clean re-install.

Those people who think they can fix Windows when it starts to fuck up.

Those people who should stick with Windows and pay the rest of us to Fdisk their hard drives and kick back while the system boots the Win Cd because they haven't got a clue. I'm glad they bought MS products- cause they're suppose to provide support, and I don't want to be the one doing that for those people.     :mad:

And may I repeat, this all happened because someone didn't backup their shit!    :mad:

This is not directed to you, and you know who you are.

But I wish the rest of those dumb... (left out) would realize that your damn hard drive is not a fucking file cabinet!

There is nothing more likely to let you down at the worst possible time than a hard drive being used as the one and only copy for important data!

Oh yeah, one more thing, those people need to stop buying those shitty $5.00 surge protectors because they don't protect shit! Tell everybody you know to buy a damn UPS, and if they say "what's that?" tell them it's something that cost 50 bucks that you need! so I don't have to Fdisk your hard drive!

Oh, yeah. I almost forgot the topic.....

You know Windows sucks when someone creates a domain name that wants to fuck the OS's manufacturer.

at my high school we used macs almost exclusively, and the only computers on our network that weren't macs were BBC Acorns (click here for more details) (http://www.banavage.com/Computers/Acorn/BBC.htm).

It was only when i went to college that i discovered a taste of the dreaded windows 3.1 running on top of DOS and the hideous M$works. (at the time i didn't even notice that i was not using claris works, well, i was studying modern music, not computing and they glossed over all that stuff).

Well, i escaped luckily, and it was only when i began to use the internet in 2000 that i really started to notice the windows shittiness effect, having had my sister harp on about how rubbish dos and windows were for years. Paradoxically, she still uses windows as her main OS and i use linux mainly, although there are extenuating circumstances for that, not the least of which is her lack of time to spend with the computer, and the fact that her hardware has been on not only its last legs, but its last arms and its last basically every other body part for a good while now. Last time i visited, a bit came off her motherboard!

anyway, i'm rambling. i'll stop.

you know windows sucks when....

-the company claims no responsibility for any damage to your computer or data as a result of the o/s

-When the people who are trying to sell it, use large buzz words that dont really mean anything

-when it crashes before its even finished being installed

-when the parent company stop supporting it the second the "new and improved" version comes out.

How's Linux perform if you have a shitty surge protector? I have no idea how good a quality mine is.

You know Windows sucks when...........

...When you get knocked out of bed by a frantic call from a freind of the family who was putting the finishing touches on a report due at 8:00AM that she needed to pass her last class for graduation. She was doing this work on the new Sony Viao her husband had bought (much to her displeasure as they already had a system that came with Win 98SE as an OEM install.) The Sony Viao came Win XP. And, yes, the damn thing crashed hard. Her report was completely gone. I couldn't find it, but then, again, I'm a UNIX dude who doesn't know a whole lot about Win XP (although I played around with it previously on their system). Of course, M$ tech support wasn't any help either.

So the report that she'd spent two weeks working on was gone, there was no way she could redo that work before 8:00AM, and her professor wouldn't take: "Win XP ate my homework!" for an excuse. So she had to repeat the entire course over this past summer. Not exactly the plans she had in mind.

The next day, she asked if I would help out by ditching Win XP and doing a Linux install for her. NBD, I brought over my Mandrake install CDs and took care of it. I also did a 'Drake install on the old system, which had been given to their six year old daughter. They had no trouble getting use to the KDE desktop. Three more for the Linux fold.

(
  ouch.
  damn.
)

I'm one of the unfortunate taking a "Micor$oftWare for Dummies" classes.  At least the instructor doesn't cre what we do in class on the computers, as long as we don't make him repeat something because we weren't paying attention.  So i have the next two weeks worth of homework done and sitting on my angelfire site.  I hated making the time to go the comp. lab to do homework; I work 50+ hours a week and go to school full time.

(
  again;
  ouch.
  damn.
)

I know two people who are taking Intro to computers, at the local community college. What they are being taught, basically, is three sections:

1)History of computers
2)Excel spreadsheet use
3)Qbasic

How fucking useless is this? None of these things help a person today!  :mad:
