Title: Color
Post by: worker201 on 3 February 2006, 21:08
bit of a rant - why does Apple need to make everything in metal colors?  I was thinking about getting one of those new MacBookPros, but the metal look is just so lame.  Honestly, if I prefer the iBook to the MacBookPro, then some designer somewhere has done something wrong.

I propose a shift in thinking.  Make computers in color.  A green PowerBook would be awesome.  Apple has done this sort of thing before, with the old iMacs and iBooks, and they did it well.  Why not revitalize the industry with colored shells?

Think different - silver isn't the only color.

I rather like the metal look my of 12" Powerbook.  I actually didn't like it particuarly until I actually saw one.  Not to say the iBook's white isn't good too...but it doesn't look as sleek.

See, I'm not interested in sleek.  I'm interested in "fuck, that's cool, don't see Compaq or Dell making stuff like that".

MacBook Pro is the Powerbook line continued over to intel. Powerbook users would like it to be the same.
But the iBook line? (Probably re-named MacBook), who knows?
The intel Mac range isn't very big yet, and intel are working on a Desktop version of the Core Duo.

So there's not really any point fussing about the colour when the whole range isn't even out yet!

Well, I couldn't find anything else to complain about ;)

Well, it looks like I won't be doing any computer shopping until May, so who knows what they will have by then.

Well, they actually ARE metal, right?  Much rather have a durable metal case than a colorful piece of plastic.

I say functionality and durability are more important than style. I mean who looks at your laptop besides you ... nobody's gonna walk up to you and say: hey man nice laptop ... at least nobody I know ever does that.

Certain types of plastic (like the iBook's) are actually stronger than aluminum.

I love the iBooks, seeing as how I have one. The G4 is plenty sleek, but my only complaint is that dirt shows up extremely well on white.

I'm with worker. Color kicks ass. I freaking love the Blue G3, the colored iMacs, and the colored clamshell iBooks... I mean... that's such a great idea. I'm glad to have a blue G3, since I can upgrade it to a 1GHz G4. It's going to be a long time before that goes out of date. Sure, I could get an actual 1GHz G4... but... I really just don't like the quicksilver metal look of those. I had one, so I know that I don't like it as much. I'd get a clamshell iBook, but man... the fastest one was 466, and they only have 800x600 screens. I guess I could always run OS 9 on 'em!

-De mode jamais fonction-

Fashion, never function

Baaahhh ... fashion ... I'm actually known for my nonexistent sense of fashion. For example, in Guild Wars you can design your own clan cape ... and I made my own ... and I thought it was the best cape ever, but pretty much everyone said it was retarded ... I suppose no one likes pink scorpions and green stripes ...

So YOU'RE the asshat that's been making my eyes bleed!
Seriously, though, pastels are a big no-no due to differences in colour rendering between monitors.

EDIT:  Or was that neons?  I can never remember.

Hehe ... the funny thing is people had a hard time convincing me to change it ... it used to be a gold scorpion and neon pink stripes :D
