My latest Apple product arrived via FedEx this morning: a brand-spanking new MacBookPro. 15.4" widescreen (with the free gloss coat). 2GHz Intel Core Duo. 1GB RAM.
And would you believe I haven't even turned it on yet? That's right, I spent so much time drooling over the package that I didn't have time to get her running. Of course it isn't quite as awesome as the iPod box. But it is still damn cool. When are PC losers gonna catch on? Every time I open a box sent to me from Apple, I damn near wet my pants. It is painfully obvious that somebody went through a lot of time and trouble to make a really incredible first impression. That's where the Apple (R) experience begins, and it doesn't end until you buy another one.
Now, some of you are saying (perhaps out loud!) something like "Fuck that, man, I'd rather spend $20 less and get a shitty boring cardboard box with a bunch of styrofoam peanuts in it". And I suppose that's a valid complaint. If you don't want the outside of the package to reflect the inside of the package, then whatever, get your next computer at Best Buy. But know this: the packages from my iPod, my World Travel Adapter kit, and my MacBookPro get proudly displayed in my living room as art! Total waste from all 3 products would fit in a sandwich bag.
I'll write some more tomorrow about the actual computer. To be honest, I don't trust slot-load drives or widescreens. And it will be my first experience with Tiger. So there may be some negative then. But so far, everything has been incredibly positive.

I probably shoulda kept my iPod packaging in tact, but at least I still have it's motherboard to show off as art.

Update: damn, it's fast.
And Dashboard is pretty cool.

Yet you trust glossy screen coating? :p

Screen looks great. Runs super-fast.
Now if I can just figure out why it keeps crashing when I connect it to the internet. These unresolved kernel traps are starting to piss me off.

"Mac OS X crashes when I connect to the Internet, but damn, the screen looks good, and the box too. Wow."
To tell you the truth, I didn't expect bullshit like this from Apple.

I recognize the irony of this situation, and I'd be laughing along with you if I wasn't so upset. Based on all my research over the last couple days, and a call to Apple Support, I have come to the conclusion that Apple has been shipping out MacBookPros that have defective Airport Express cards in them for a couple weeks. The computer works absolutely fantastic as long as the Airport card is turned off. Unfortunately, this means that I cannot use the internet. I normally take my computer to the pub a couple nights a week for beers and downloads, but I can't use their network for more than about 10 minutes before a kernel panic.
Over the phone, Apple support suggested I take the computer to my local Apple shop for fault diagnosis. Which I am going to do as soon as my car is out of the shop (another sweet irony - it's a Volkswagen).
As for installing Windows on my Mac, fuck right off. I don't even allow Windows Media Player or MS Office on my computer. Linux, maybe, if things ever got really bad. Never Windows. But as I said, it's a hardware issue, not OSX's fault.

Women = property
Just got a negative rep on this (not like I care too much ... but enough to clarify)
This was just something a teacher once told me ... people refer to inanimate objects (boats, cars, planes, computers, etc.) as she ... he said it was because "Women = property" :D
Now whether you chose to believe that or not is up to you ... me, I think there's a decent chance it might mean something (as long as there are no other explanations)
P.S. No offense worker201 ... I wasn't targeting you
and again I have nothing against women

Shit on fire.
It wasn't the Airport Card. It was the socket on the logic board that the Airport Card connects to. I took the computer into the shop 2last Thursday (08Jun), and they were able to diagnose the problem over the weekend. Then they had to convince Apple that they were right. Finally, last Friday (16Jun), the logic board replacement was authorized. It is expected to arrive at the shop this Wednesday. So hopefully my MBP will be back home by next weekend.
Apple may make really good computers, and a nice OS to go with it. But when they fuck up, they fuck up good. And they're nice and slow at getting the problem resolved. If it was my company, I would have handed me a brand new MBP and said "No hard feelings, we value you as a customer". Fix the busted computer later, while the customer is telling his friends how awesome Apple support is. Unfortunately for their PR, this is not how they handled it. I still love Macs, but I am kinda unimpressed by the way this issue has been handled so far. I've had the computer for almost a month, and it has only been useable for like a week!

...it's about time mac users caught on, it is an x86 Intel CPU after all. ;), and Surprise! you can even run Windows!
