Title: My New Forum Running On OSX
Post by: billy_gates on 19 November 2002, 04:08
I am trying to learn some stuff about Linux, specifically Apache, MySQL, and PHP.  I just installed a new forum that runs off of my powermac.  I need you guys to go there and try to overload it the site is:
http://www.skinner.com/jeffberg/bbs/index.php (http://www.skinner.com/jeffberg/bbs/index.php)
So go there and try to overload it.

P.S. for you windows guys, this is your chance to jam a Mac

Ooooohh nice firewall...

A bit slow. What is your connection speed?

And your ISP doesn't allow servers, I presume. How did you get it to redirect to port 69? I'd love to know, as I am in the same predicament.

I'll answer your questions in order, but first, are you being sarcastic with the "Ooooh, nice firewall" thing or is my firewall actually any good?  Now to the answers.

I am running on Cox Cable, at around 5-8.

Yes they block port 80, those cox!

www.skinner.com (http://www.skinner.com) is my step uncle's domain running off of his own Linux server. Therefore I asked him to make /jeffberg redirect to my IP Address 68.5.141.xxx:69, it is a standard apache feature.  I don't know how to add it in the config file, but in Webmin it is quite easy.

Also thanks for joining, now I have 6 members instead of 4, but you two failed in jamming up my mac.  Also I sent a mass email (assuming you put in real emails) you should get it, please tell me if you don't.

No sarcasm, all of my basic port scans show your computer as dead - a good thing.

Secondly, don't post your IP on the board unless you like people trying to hack you.

Thirdly, I need to redirect my main addy to a port, not a subdirectory. So I need to find another way to do it. Thanks anyway.

He might as well post his IP, the redirect goes to the IP address, which means I can't get to it because I block all sites that go to directly to IP address and only allow named sites (makes life easier when setting up Squid restrictions). Is there any way you can get a host name from a dynamic DNS service for your dynamic IP address and have the redirect go to the name?

ya... my proxy blocks it too.

You should get a domain from fuckmicrosoft.com

too profane for handing out those fuckbillgates.com/jeffberg sites at school, I'm only 16 you know.  And to void man, isn't there a termporary way to get around your squid patrols? You don't want them on this forum, why would you want them on mine.

P.S. I have no word blockers because I'm too lazy to write them in, although I'm thinking of making Apple turn into everyone's favorite computer company or everyone's favorite fruit company, but I'm not sure I will follow through with that plan.

P.S.S. tell your friends about my site, especially if they like cars, if u notice the top of the forum is devoted to cars.

P.S.S.S. Me and some friends are making web pages for small fees in order to compete with other friends, and if I display to my parental units that I can host a successful web server, we could host our clients pages, for a little extra of course.  So tell you friends that a couple of geniuses from Southern California are making web pages for cheap, and if we have enough customers willing to pay for their sites to be hosted, they will be.

Yes I can get around it but I just thought you might like to know that some people will not be able to get to your site unless you use a name. I have hostnames through www.dyndns.org (http://www.dyndns.org) which is free (actually I made a couple of donations but you don't have to). And there are many other dynamic DNS services that are also free if you don't want to go with them.

Mac Commandos are Mac fanatics who love Macs, and raid Mac haters.

We are an elite (though new & unknown) force of mac fanatics whose sole purpose is to convert the masses (windowslusers) to the greatness that is mac, or something along those lines. i have a count of two converts under my belt now. i am working on my next two...(evil laughter)

well, constant comparing helps. when my sister comes over, we get to talking about computers and she is always complaining that her (windows)pc is screwing up, or it did this, or she had to reinstall the os again, blah blah blah. then i say, well, my pc has its share of problems, but my mac hasnt had one major error yet. it hasnt crashed. if she has a problem, i compare it to my mac. now she wants one. so do my parents. when they see how clean it looks, and how easy it is to just start using it, they get this wide eyed look of "i never thought it could be like this!!". especially when i open the case for them, they always ask, where are all the cables, where is the clutter?!?!..they are very shocked that it could be so clean. so basically i am doing what the switch ads are doing, comparing winpc to mac, but i go the extra step and show them how it runs and show them things like how badass itunes is, or how easy it is to get photos off of my digital camera, i could go  on and on, but i think we have all heard it.   (http://smile.gif)
i try not to force it to them though. i have found most people to be very unresponsive when i do that.

since I fit into the Mac commando category, could I join into it, and are there any requirements or is it just a fun thing to do to act as a group?

also, when I get around to it, I will do that dynamic dns thing to make my site more compatible for you wishing for more protection

I'm actually not certain he knows how, or has a reson for not doing it, he doesn't have an anything.skinner.com not even for his mail server and stuff.

Now I will append the :Mac Commando to my name

The only problem is that the icons in the forum look kind of like MSN???

Anyone else noticed this?

Also ports 69   tftp
           113  auth, tap, ident
           1033

are open.

What uses port 1033 it is listed as unassigned

Tell me if you rather not have my results posted on the net.

i figured it out, the firewall was off on one of my PC's, for XBox Multiplayer.  I use a NAT firewall, so at any given time I can allow all ports to go to one computer.

Thanks for complimenting my smilies, but you must understand that the interface and "Neatos" on the forum are all there by default, I havn't added anything in.

P.S. Another comparison to this forum: according to Ikonboard php is much faster than CGI, so I must also have that advantage over this site.
